At Bethesda Child Care Centre in Mirangine, Nyandarua County, life is built in ordinary moments.
Morning routines. Shared meals. School preparation. Chores. Play. Conversations. Evening prayers.
Small moments, repeated daily, are what give a child safety, belonging and stability. For the 70 children in our care, that repetition is the point.
Founded in 2013 by Pastor John Kamau and Elizabeth Gachiri, Bethesda exists to provide a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children while working toward family reintegration wherever it is safe and possible.
A bed is the smallest part of what a child needs. We want children to experience what every child deserves: consistency, encouragement, care, opportunities to learn, and adults who show up every day.
Some days are busy and joyful. Some days require patience and resilience. Across all seasons, daily life continues.
Children prepare for school. Meals are cooked and shared. Homework gets done. Visitors stop by and spend time with the children. Where possible, the farm is tended to support household meals through the seasons.
There is laughter. Friendships form. Routines create stability, and growth happens quietly over time.
Care at Bethesda means building an environment where children can learn, build confidence, discover their interests and prepare for the future, long after today's needs are met.
We are grateful to every person who visits, encourages, volunteers, partners and walks alongside this work.
Thank you for being part of the story.
