Governance & Accountability

Transparency

Everything a partner, donor, or reviewer needs to know about how Bethesda Child Care Centre is registered, governed, and run.

Registration & Legal Status

Bethesda Child Care Centre was founded on 11 August 2013 by Pastor John Kamau and Elizabeth Gachiri, operating under the Bethesda Center of Evangelism Mission Ministry-Kenya.

The Centre holds Charitable Children's Institution status under the Children Act 2001 (CS No. 000799, first issued 27 September 2015).

The CCI certificate is currently under renewal. A backup letter from the Sub-County Children's Office, Nyandarua Central, confirms the Centre has completed all required renewal steps and is awaiting the Sub-County Children Advisory Committee's decision.

Note on CCI renewal: Government CCI renewals are paused nationally until October 2026 under the Children Act 2022 reforms. This is a sector-wide administrative pause, not a Bethesda-specific delay.

Governance

Bethesda is administered by a Board of Directors under the Centre's constitution. Elizabeth Gachiri serves as Safeguarding Lead, with overall responsibility for coordinating and monitoring all child protection measures at the Centre.

Financial decisions follow a tiered approval structure: routine expenditure is approved by the Centre Director, mid-range spending requires joint sign-off from the Director and Treasurer, and any commitment above a set threshold requires full Board resolution.

Financial Stewardship

All funds received by Bethesda Child Care Centre — whether through donations, grants, sponsorships, or fundraising — are used solely to advance the Centre's mission of care, protection, education, health, and welfare for vulnerable children. Restricted funds are used only for the purposes a donor designates.

All transactions are documented and supported by receipts, invoices, or equivalent records. The Board of Directors oversees financial management and compliance with donor requirements and applicable law.

Safeguarding

Elizabeth Gachiri leads all child safeguarding and protection work at Bethesda, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. Safeguarding concerns are documented, escalated where required by law, and managed in accordance with the Centre's Child Safeguarding Policy.
